KINDLY LET ME KNOW DETAILS REGARDING MEDICAL EXPENSES INCURRED OUTSIDE INDIA

By Av Manoharan on May 18, 2014 Reply

Almost all the general insurance companies will only cover expenses for treatment done in India. However, nowadays some insurance companies are offering policy variants which offer coverage for treatment done and medical expenses incurred abroad for serious illnesses. But please note the premium for such a plan may be very high.

No

You cannot claim a single (medical) expense from 2 different policies / health insurance companies.

If your bill is 3 lacs then you can claim 1 lac under your group policy and 2 lacs under your IFFCO Tokio Health plan. But if your claim is 1 lac then you can claim that 1 lac from any one policy by submitting original papers.

I have superannuated as a Senior Executive of Tata Steel Group Company : TM International Logistics Ltd., Kolkata where my services were delegated by Tata Steel Ltd in the year 2005. As per TMILL's policy we are to take an insurance policy of value Rs 5 lacs for Self and Spouse the premium of which shall be fully reimbursable by the Company. I had a Gold Policy with Reliance General Insurance Co Ltd for the past few years. However, during my overseas visit in June - Oct 2011 for which I was also covered by Travel Policy of Reliance, the domestic Healthwise Policy expired end August 2011 for which Reliance did not care to intimate or inform me or members of my family. In Nov 2011 Reliance issued a Renewal Advice and after I had drawn a cheque for the annual premium they suddenly did a 'u' turn stating that the Gold Policy was no longer available. All these years both of us insured have been enjoying perfectly good health and have not claimed a single paise for medical treatment. Need of hospitalisation did not at all arise and hence we were considered too good for Reliance as additional incrementally bonuses became creditable in case of any future exigency requirement medical attention. Before going overseas we had undergone all medical diagnostic tests from Vijaya Diagnostic Services Visakhapatnam right from Blood, Urine, ECG, Threadmill, Brain and Total Body scans so as to rule out any 'pre-existing' disease. The reports have been absolutely normal. I understand that you service Tata Steel superannuated executives. I shall be glad if you could send your representative across to meet me. My phone number at Visakhapatnam, where I am now resident, is 9966777533.
