Hi, This is Vidya. I am working in manufacturing company. We want to take a mediclaim policy for our employee. I want to know, which benefits is getting from mediclaim policy?

By Vidya Patil on Aug 24, 2013 Reply

Hi Vidya, great that you are planning medical benefits to your employee.

If it is for all employees, you will be provided a "group" plan which will cover all of them. This is a very customised plan and you can include and exclude the benefits which you want to provide to all employees. For example, you may even want to cover the parents of your employees.

Such plans are completely customisable by the employer and you can decide the type of benefits which you want to cover. The premium will be decied by the insurance company depending on the type of covers and other risk fators after they evaluate your proposal.

In case, it is a single employee just go in for standard health insurance which will cover all hospitalisation expenses. Depending on the insurer which you select, go through the list of exclusions carefully before signing up.

Do write back in case of any further info.

Hello,
I am Mr Milind from Mumbai.
i am holding New India assurnace mediclaim policy for many years, this policy was taken through an agent of new india, however the said agent is not interested in renewing policy with "new india" & suggesting to shift to some other pvt based insurance co.
I want to continue my mediclaim policy with "New India ". My questions are as follows:
1. Do i have to renew policy only through "agent" (i am not interested doing it online) or i can approach any near by office of "new india " & renew my policy?
2. What way " new india" assurance agents helps mediclaim polcy holder say at the time of claim or reporting hospitalistion etc within 7 day, so that i can shift to some other mediclaim agent of "new india"?
Pl help
milind shevde

By Milind Shevde on Aug 17, 2013 Reply

Dear Milind, pls find the answers to both your questions below:

1. Yes, you can renew it yourself. If you are not comfortable doing it online, just visit the closese branch office and you can do it there with a cheque payment.

2. The agent at best provides you with the list of documents which you need to submit and may even help with delivering it. The agent typically does not play a greater role than that. When you visit the office, mention the fact that your old agent does not wish to serve you and they will allocate it to another agent. That way your concerns too will get covered.

Do write back in case of any further query. Hope this was helpful!

Hi,

This is Sachin Gandhi. I have a new india family policy for more than 5 year. I have even insured by mother for 1 lac in the same policy.

This July my mom was admitted in hospital for treatment & we have received 80 % claim amount. This was first claim for my mother.

I want to increase sum insurred of my mother from 1 lac to 3 lac. I have learned from my agent that since we had claimed last month, we cannot increase the sum insured. We have to wait for 2 year (provided their are no claims). Is it true ? How can i confirm the same ?

Awaiting for your valuable response.

Thanks.

Hi Sachin, the agent has given the correct information. Please refer to the link below which explains the Company Policy

Hi, I Manezes Dominic,
I am working in a corporate company. I am the policy holder of MEDICLAIM POLICY OF NEW INDIA ASSURANCE CO for past 6 years. In the policy the valid date mentioned from 27-July-2012, my insured amount is Rs 3.50, 000.00 (three lacks Fifty thousand), we availed the amount of 2.09,000 for my dad’s illness on Jan 2013. The remaining claimable amount of was there in my policy. Suddenly my mother got an injury in her head and admitted at Mehta Hospitals on 25th of July 2013. The total expenses become Rs 3.41, 000/- for treatment upto August 9, 2013 and the policy also got renewed before the expiry the date for the next continuing year. But when (5th Aug 2013) the hospital send the medical claim documents for approval to TTK for Rs 3.41,000 they gave the approval only for the remaining amount of the last year’s policy(Rs 1.41,000). The Hospital chasing us to pay the remaining 2 lack. How to overcome the issue.

By Manezes Dominic on Aug 09, 2013 Reply

Dear Dominic, this is a tough one. The insurance company has considered the date of admission to the hospital as the claim date and hence only processed for the balance amount of your cover for the last year.

You should write to the insurance company, keeping the TPA in the loop, that treatment was over the period of 2 policy terms and hence you should be allowed to claim from the new policy also.

Pls use the mail ids provided in the link below to highlight your scenario so that you can get a quick resolution.

How do I get it renewed?

Dear Sir, I would urge you to put the renewal request on mail to the New India authorities so there is a trail of the requests you are making. Use this link to get access to the mail id http://www.newindia.co.in/Content.aspx?pageid=73.

Have you received the renewal intimation as yet?

Also you can make the payment online at http://niaonline.newindia.co.in/ so that you do not have to wait for anyone to collect the payment,

This link is erratic though and does not work at times.

how to calculate the premiums of recently launched (new) family (floater) mediclaim 2012 policy? The old system of premium of calculation was 100% for proposer, 50% that of for spouse and 25% for each child in old Family faloater 2007 policy. In new family 2012 if calculate the 100% premium for each as per one's age & sum insured, it will be 3 to 4% less than that of (regular) Mediclaim 2012 policy. Why customer should take family mediclaim 2012 now?

By Chirag Gandhi on Jul 08, 2013 Reply

Dear Chirag, not to worry. Your claim would not be processed by the Super-Top insurance provider. Your documents hopefully should come back to you. If not please follow up with the TPA. In the mean-time, please intimate your normal plan insurer about the claim and maybe start the process with duplicate copies.

By Srinivas Nyalapelli on Jun 26, 2013 Reply

Dear Srinivas, you will have to check the policy document which will clearly mention the charges which would be payable. It is best to check the document and get clarifications.

For example, if there is a cap on the room rent, they are correct in paying only the allowable amount. These are called sub-limits.

Plus there are conditions which apply to day-care treatment.

Under normal hospitalisation which exceeds 24 hours, the expenses incurred in the treamtment including the ones you have mentiioned are payable.

To get the exact conditions, please check the clauses in the policy document - they will be c learly laid down.

Dear Mr Mitra, this forms part of the portability of plans. You or any of you family members who are part of the group plan can move to an individual or family floater plan from the same insurer.

You will have to contact the insurer under whom you had the group cover and request them in writing to move you to an individual or family floater cover. The insurance company will help you out with the process.

I am a senior citizen of 78 yrs. I have mediclaim policy for last No. of years. I have undergone surgery and claimed for compensation which I got in time. Now fpr the renewal in the next yeay,my agent has informed me that since ihave claimed last year my premium will be loaded by 100% and the claim will be given only 70% Kindly let me know the facts of this & oblige.
Thanks.

By Parimal Chitalia on Apr 24, 2013 Reply

Dear Parimal Chitalia, this is unfortunate and is actually a sad state of affairs. But as per rules they are entitled to increase the premium. Basically there is loading being applied to the plan since you have mad a claim.

You should check with your agent if a 100% increase in premiums is correct. As per the new guideline from IRDA, the claim based loading cannot be done on a case-by-case basis, this is effective 16th Feb 2013.

Also the 70% payment being processed henceforth is because of the co-payment clause. Again, check the policy document and see if the co-payment clause is mentioned and what the conditions are.

Do let us know...
