Tax Benefits in United India Health Insurance Policy for Senior Citizens

 

Health Insurance premiums paid up to Rs 20,000 for senior citizens are allowed as a deduction from the taxable income each year under section 80D of the Income Tax Act.

  • Pre-existing conditions for first 4 years

  • HIV, AIDS and related diseases
  • Cost of vitamins and tonics unless part of treatment
  • Naturopathy treatment, acupressure, acupuncture and other such therapies
  • First 2 yrs exclusion on treatment of conditions like cataract, hypertrophy, hysterectomy, hernia,  calculus, joint replacement, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis etc
  • Congenital (diseases existing at birth) for first 2 yrs
  • General weakness, rest cure, convalescence etc
  • Service charges, surcharge, admission fees or registration charges at the hospital
