Hindu College of Delhi University in collaboration with MetLife Insurance Ltd is now offering an add-on course in actuarial sciences from this year onwards.

An actuary is a business professional who deals with the financial impact of risk and uncertainty. Actuaries provide expert assessments of financial security systems and Actuaries’ insurance disciplines include life, health, pensions, annuities, asset management, property, casualty, general insurance, and reinsurance.

Currently in India, a person needs to be registered with the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) and clear an exam to practice as an actuarial scientist. This course by Hindu College aims to prepare the students for this IAI exam.

The course has 12 papers like statistical methods, financial economics, business economics and statistical methods among others. The course equips students with analytical skills for solving problems in the areas of risk management, healthcare and public policy. Students can enrol for the course in two batches; while the first one will start after August 16 this year, the other batch will in January 2013.
