This year, the bar has been raised for getting the highest insurance cover for Ganesha festival, in the city of Mumbai. GSB Seva Sadan has insured the Ganesha festivities for an astounding Rs 221.70 crore, which is almost five times the insurance cover it took last year.

GSB’s Ganpati mandal is said to be one of the wealthiest mandals in the city and for valid reasons the organizers wanted to leave no stone unturned to cover this mega festival. The insurance cover has been provided by one of the four public sector insurer - New India Assurance Company.
The Rs 221.70 crore cover is divided into personal accident insurance cover, standard fire and special perils with terrorism cover etc. Under personal accident, the devotees that flock in large numbers every year to get a glimpse of their idol Lord Ganesha, will be covered. Close to1,820 devotees are covered for Rs 10 lakh each and the total sum under personal accident cover comes to Rs 182 crore. Apart from this, mandal members are also insured for Rs 20 crore. The gold ornaments and jewellery adorned by the Ganpati is also covered under all-risk cover for Rs 18.35 crore.
Last year the GSB Seva Mandal had taken an insurance cover for Rs 49.5 crore which was said to be the highest among all others in the city. This year the cover has taken a gigantic leap and has broken all records. The stakes for this festival seems to be getting higher every year. New India Assurance will extend the cover for 15 days starting from August 27.
