Reliance Life had entered into an agreement with Room to Read, a charitable organization, to donate Rs 25000 for every six scored during the World Cup 2011.

Amongst the Indian cricket players, Sachin Tendulkar, who completed his 48th one day century, has hit 8 sixes in the World Cup Match. So far, Sachin is the highest contributor for the literacy drive followed by Virender Sehwag who has scored 7 sixes. With Reliance Life Insurance  shelling out Rs 25,000 for every six that a player hits, at least 30 children will get access to educational material and libraries that stock a wide variety of books.

The donated money will be put to good use by the non-profit organization called Room to Read. Reliance Life has also been inviting donations from people through their campaign called ‘Hit illiteracy for a six’, using Reliance Big FM, Big Cinemas and other platforms.

The insurer released a statement that with nearly 150 sixes being scored so far, over 5,000 children have already benefitted from this campaign. The company is additionally contributing Rs 10,000 for every four scored in the match between India and England.
