National Insurance Varistha Mediclaim for Senior Citizens
This is a unique health insurance policy especially designed to cater to the needs of the senior citizens. It covers medical expenses incurred by a person due to certain critical illnesses, disease sickness, injury or accidents.
Key Features of National Insurance Varistha Mediclaim for Senior Citizens
This policy covers Hospitalization & Domiciliary Hospitalization for a fixed sum insured per person.
Health cover can be extended and continued till the age of 90 years
Cumulative Bonus and cost of Health Check-up is also available on claim free years
What is covered in National Insurance Varistha Mediclaim for Senior Citizens?
Hospitalization expenses is paid till 1% of Sum Insured on a daily basis
Fees of the Surgeon and his team, Anaesthetist, Medical Practitioner, Consultants, Specialists, etc. are paid till 25% of Sum Insured
Cost of medicines, drugs, blood, oxygen, diagnostic charges, etc are paid till 50% of Sum Insured
Emergency transport to the hospital in an ambulance is also paid for till Rs 1000/- in one policy year
Treatments for Cataract and Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia and Organ Transplant are also paid for but till a certain limit as specified
Additional Benefits of National Insurance Varistha Mediclaim for Senior Citizens
Certain critical illnesses are covered like Cancer, Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, etc. as an additional feature of this policy. The critical illness claim can be paid even without hospitalization.
Medical expenses occurred in 30 days pre-hospitalization and 60 days post hospitalization is covered for
Certain pre-existing diseases are covered after one year of claim free renewal.
Pre-existing diseases like Hypertension and Diabetes will be covered from the inception on payment of additional premium.

Tax Benefits in National Insurance Varistha Mediclaim
Health Insurance premiums paid up to Rs. 15,000 in case of individuals and Rs 20,000 for senior citizens are allowed as a deduction from the taxable income each year under section 80D of the Income Tax Act.
Exclusions - What is not covered in National Insurance Varistha Mediclaim?
Treatment by the insured person during the first 30 days from the date of policy commencement
First Year Exclusions are: Joint replacements of any kind due to an accident or otherwise, Cataract, Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy, Hernia, Fistula in anus, Chronic fissure in anus, Piles, Hydrocele, Congenital Internal Disease, Pilonidal Sinus, Sinusitis, Stone disease of any site, Benign Lumps/growths in any part of the body, Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media, surgical treatment of Tonsils, Adenoids and deviated nasal septums and related disorders
Vaccination of any kind is not compensated for
Cost of spectacles and dental treatment and surgery is also not included in this policy
Expenses which are purely diagnostic in nature with no positive existence of any disease
Expenses which are mainly cosmetic in nature
Any injury or disease which is a result of the war is treated as an exclusion
Self inflicting injuries by use of drugs or alcohol is not included and also rehabilitation therapy
`Run Down’ condition or rest cure, Convalescence, general debility, congenital external disease or defects or anomalies, sterility, venereal disease,
All types of diseases from HIV AIDS is not included
Vitamin and tonic intake is not included unless it has been prescribed by the doctor
Pregnancy related expenses and child birth is not included
Injury or disease caused by or contributed to by nuclear weapons/materials.
Even treatment by naturopathy is not included in this policy
No claim will be paid out if the Insured Person smokes 40 or more cigarettes / cigars or equivalent tobacco intake in a day
