Reliance General Insurance Company has been asked to pay a compensation of Rs 20.75 lakh to the family of a Delhi Government official, who died last year in February after battling for life for nearly 2 months.
In December 2009, Prasad who was working as an accounts officer with the Delhi Government was on his way to work when he was hit by a tempo in an unfortunate road accident. Following this, he was admitted to Aruna Asif Ali Hospital and then later to Lok Nayak Jai Prabha Hospital in Delhi as he had suffered from a major injury to his brain resulting in severe blood clots. He was then shifted to a private nursing home and then to Apollo Hospital and was struggling for life for almost 2 months. In February 2010, he succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident.
The motor accident claims tribunal has asked the insurance company Reliance General, who had insured the victim’s car, to compensate his family members. The judge observed that the deceased had died due to the injuries suffered by him in the accident caused by rash and negligent driving by the tempo driver.
The family members include Prasad’s wife, mother, married daughter, and son. The court has directed the insurer to give 60% of the entire amount to his wife, 20% to his mother and the remaining amount to be shared equally by his children.
