Royal Sundaram Alliance Insurance Company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Government of Bihar to provide health insurance to families that are below poverty line (BPL). This scheme is sponsored by the Government of India under the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY).

Over nine lakh families in Bihar will get the benefits of this health insurance scheme. These are families that face a threat to their income earning capability when faced with a serious illness. Under RSBY, every family is entitled to hospitalization coverage up to Rs 30,000 for most of the diseases. All pre-existing diseases are covered from day one and there is no age-limit. This coverage extends to 5 members including the head of the household, spouse and 3 dependents. Beneficiaries will have to pay on Rs 30 while the remainder amount will be paid by State and Central Government.

Ajay Bimbhet, MD, Royal Sundaram said, “We are committed to providing good and quality healthcare to the most unaffordable class of people. Renewal of the MoU is a testimony of our untiring contribution to the BPL families for whom accessing healthcare facilities is just a farfetched dream.”

RSBY scheme will be provided in eight districts of Bihar, including Vaishali, Araria, Sheohar, Katihaar, Sitamarhi, Kishengunj, West Champaran and East Champaran. Families under this scheme will be able to get treatments in all public as well as private hospitals networked with RSBY.
