As per the data compiled by General Insurance Council of India for the year ending March 31 2015, Star Health Insurance, has been ranked number one among all stand-alone health insurers.
Star Health hit the top spot by procuring a premium of Rs 1,439.27 crore in the health insurance segment. Star Health and Allied Insurance is an exclusive health insurance company and has 900 branches across India with 7,000 employees across India.
This achievement by Star Health only underscores the huge untapped health insurance market in India. Few years back, the insurance regulator approved formation of exclusive health insurance companies in India. Apollo Munich was the first company to enter this market and now there are four additional players in the exclusive health insurance space namely, Max Bupa, Star Health, Religare and CignaTTK.
