Have a complaint against any insurance company? Not sure whom to approach with your grievance? Well, now you do not need to break your head worrying about where to go for the same. The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) has come up with a direct facility to help policyholders. They have launched an online service for registering customer complaints and also following up on the same.

If you have put forward your complaint to the insurance company and have still not received the response or if the response was delayed then you can approach this grievance cell of the IRDA. Also if the insurance company has responded to your complaint but you are not satisfied with the response received, even then you can complain to this IRDA Grievance cell.

The Grievance cell is open to the insured and/or the claimants for sharing their complaints. For registering the complaint,

(1) Insured/Claimant can call the IRDA call center on 155255,

(2) Fill out a complaint form on the IRDA website or

(3) Email them with the necessary details to complaints@irda.gov.in

You need not go through the trouble of contacting the Ombudsman or taking legal action for any hassles with an insurer. All you need to do is simply log on to the official website of IRDA, register yourself and then lodge a complaint. You need to provide details like the insurer’s name, policy number, etc. Then they will provide you with a unique log-in identification number which can be later used to track the status of the complaint and follow it up online without the intervention of any other person or any agents.

This service would be provided for both life insurance and non-life insurance policyholders. This service can be availed from a link on IRDA’s official website. Also, this site would be linked to the grievance redressal sites of insurance companies and complaints would be forwarded to the respective insurance companies. Hence such complaints would definitely be treated with utmost seriousness and extreme urgency.

and non-life insurance policyholders. This service can be availed from a link on IRDA’s official website. How will this help policyholders?

In today’s scenario, this will be of great help to the policyholders who do not have the time to go from one place to another to lodge a complaint against any injustice done by a particular insurance company and then follow it up on a regular basis. Thus, an online complaint registration system would be able to take care of their issues and concerns very effectively. So if you feel stuck and you find that the insurance companies are not helping you resolve the problem, there is now the regulator itself whom you can approach with your problem. The complaints can be against both life insurance companies and general insurance companies. Even if you have faced some issues with insurance agents of any particular insurance company, you may want to ensure that the regulator knows about it so that they can take steps to prevent any wrong-doings with other vulnerable customers.

and general insurance companies. Even if you have faced some issues with insurance agents of any particular insurance company, you may want to ensure that the regulator knows about it so that they can take steps to prevent any wrong-doings with other vulnerable customers.

In addition to saving time for policyholders, it will also increase awareness among people who do not know whom to approach in case of any concern. There is an Ombudsman but only a few people are aware of the same. Hence approaching the regulator directly is actually a very convenient and easy option for most. It will not only be of immense help to the policyholders but will also reduce the time taken to resolve any issue. This comes across as a beneficial step for the benefit of policyholders.

Say, for example, the insurance company is not processing your health insurance claim completely and is making deductions that are not mentioned in the policy document and you feel are unfair deductions – write straight to the insurance regulator who is there to help you out. Or even for your car insurance for which some claim is not being processed – call 155255 or just write an email.
