Niva Bupa which was formerly known as Max Bupa has an all rounder health insurance plan named Health Companion policy that covers your medical expenses. Key Features of Niva Bupa Health Companion Policy
Refill Benefit: If the sum insured gets exhausted during the year, then 100% of the base sum insured will be refilled for treatment of any other illnesses.
Example: Say Mr. Shinde, age 45, buys a Niva Bupa Health Companion Plan with a base sum insured of Rs. 10 Lakhs. In the first year, he claims for Rs. 8 lakhs for a surgery.
After the first claim the company will re-fill the amount of maximum up to 100% of base sum insured i.e. Rs.10 lakhs. In the same year, Mr. Shinde gets hospitalized for any other illness and the bill amount is Rs. 4 Lakhs. So, Rs. 2 lakhs from the base sum insured will be used and Rs. 2 Lakhs from the Re-filled amount will be used to make the payment
Pre & Post Hospitalization: The policy covers 30 days prior and 60 days post hospitalization charges. The expenses incurred on the treatment or consulting of the doctor is covered if the insured person is admitted for the same purpose. Post discharge, charges such as follow ups, consulting the doctor, tests and other expenses are covered.
Cashless facility: You can avail for the cashless facility from around 6900+ network hospitals of Niva Bupa when you purchase the Health Companion plan. You can consider the network hospitals on Niva Bupa for availing the cashless facility.
Hospital accommodation: The policyholder can avail any type of room accommodation as per his/her choice. There are no room rent cappings.
No claim Bonus: With every claim free year, health companion plan offers a 20% as bonus. So, if your base sum insured is of Rs.5 lakh and there was no claim during that policy year, you will receive a 20% bonus i.e. Rs. 1 Lac. The total base sum insured for next year will be Rs. 6 lakhs but the premium paid will remain the same as per the age bracket.
Hospital cash: The policyholder can avail the hospital cash benefit for the duration of admission at the hospital. The insured person has to be admitted for more than 24 hours. Hospital cash is paid by the insurer to the insured person for the loss of pay due to hospitalization. The amount paid may vary according to the plan chosen at the time of purchase of the policy.
Tax Benefit: You can show this investment to avail tax exemption under section 80D of the Income Tax Act.
Discount on 2 year plan: If you take a policy for 2 years together, Niva Bupa Health Companion health insurance policy offers a discount of 12.5% on the second year’s premium.
SafeGuard Rider: The policy provides an annual increase in the sum insured based on the inflation rate without affecting the premium cost. This is an additional facility that is offered under the NIva Bupa Health Companion plan. You can avail it by paying an extra premium.
Claim Settlement: The Niva Bupa Health Companion claims are processed in 30 mins on submission of proper documents and other procedures. There is no involvement of any third party at the time of settlement making it easy for the policyholder.
Domiciliary Treatments: All the treatments done at home on account of unavailability of hospital bed or on doctors advice shall be covered up to the sum insured. The expenses will be covered under the reimbursement claim process.
Emergency Ambulance expense: In case of emergency, if there is a need for an ambulance, then the policy covers the cost of the ambulance up to Rs.3000. The claim will be accepted only if the insured is in-patient for more than 24 hours.
Alternative Treatments: Covers various inpatient treatments under AYUSH (Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy)

How to apply for a claim in Niva Bupa Health Companion Plan?
With Niva Bupa Health Companion plan you can apply for cashless claims in their network hospitals. However, if you get hospitalized in any other hospitals, you are required to notify the insurer within 48 hours of admission. Post discharge from the hospital, submit all the relevant documents, invoices, medical reports and discharge summary to the insurer along with a duly filled claim form for reimbursement.
