If the sum insured gets exhausted during the year, then 100% of the base sum insured will be refilled for treatment of any other illnesses.

Example:
Say Mr. Shinde, age 45, buys a Niva Bupa Health Companion Plan with a base sum insured of Rs. 10 Lakhs. In the first year, he claims for Rs. 8 lakhs for a surgery.

After the first claim the company will re-fill the amount of maximum up to 100% of base sum insured i.e. Rs.10 lakhs. In the same year, Mr. Shinde gets hospitalized for any other illness and the bill amount is Rs. 4 Lakhs. So, Rs. 2 lakhs from the base sum insured will be used and Rs. 2 Lakhs from the Re-filled amount will be used to make the payment

The policy covers 30 days prior and 60 days post hospitalization charges. The expenses incurred on the treatment or consulting of the doctor is covered if the insured person is admitted for the same purpose. Post discharge, charges such as follow ups, consulting the doctor, tests and other expenses are covered.

With every claim free year, health companion plan offers a 20% as bonus. So, if your base sum insured is of Rs.5 lakh and there was no claim during that policy year, you will receive a 20% bonus i.e. Rs. 1 Lac. The total base sum insured for next year will be Rs. 6 lakhs but the premium paid will remain the same as per the age bracket.

The policyholder can avail the hospital cash benefit for the duration of admission at the hospital. The insured person has to be admitted for more than 24 hours. Hospital cash is paid by the insurer to the insured person for the loss of pay due to hospitalization. The amount paid may vary according to the plan chosen at the time of purchase of the policy.

All the treatments done at home on account of unavailability of hospital bed or on doctors advice shall be covered up to the sum insured. The expenses will be covered under the reimbursement claim process.

In case of emergency, if there is a need for an ambulance, then the policy covers the cost of the ambulance up to Rs.3000. The claim will be accepted only if the insured is in-patient for more than 24 hours.
